Artists throughout history have delved into the intricate exploration of identity, transcending mere visual representation to capture the essence of who they are. Identity, far beyond superficial portrayals, constitutes a complex terrain for art educators to navigate.
This worksheet introduces the theme of Gender Stereotypes inspired by ceramics, tapestries and paintings of Greyson Perry. His art engages deeply with the exploration of gender as he challenges conventional ideas surrounding masculinity and femininity. Students are invited to write stereotypical phrases ie ‘I feel pretty’, into the speech bubbles above the non gender specific figures on template, then illustrate the figures which challenge the words. It is highly recommended to introduce students to Grayson Perry, his artwork and his alter ego, Claire, before starting this task.
